Scope and Subject Matter of School Management:
The efficient use of time, manpower, wealth and material resources in carrying out various activities to achieve the set objectives in a school is called school management. School Plant is a broader term that includes buildings, playgrounds, furniture, equipment, libraries, laboratories and other such facilities, all the physical facilities used to achieve various objectives form a school plant. The beneficial use of the school plant for the achievement of educational objectives is called the management of the school plant.
ii- Management of Curricular and Co-curricular Activities:
Different educationists have defined Curriculum in different ways. Therefore, there is no agreed definition of curriculum in the books. According to Kerr, all learning that is guided and planned by the school, whether it is imparted in groups or individually and whether organized in or out of school, is called curriculum. Further, he says that the curriculum consists of four components that are interrelated, i.e curriculum objectives, knowledge, learning experiences and curriculum evaluation.
Selection and planning of knowledge keeping in mind the curricular objectives, organizing learning experiences and activities through teaching and learning and evaluating how much the curricular objectives have been achieved, all these functions are called curriculum management. .
Many co-curricular activities like games, sports, scouting, climbing, debates, essay writing, workshops, symposiums, quiz competitions, role-plays, seminars etc. play an important role in the positive development of a child's personality. In this regard, planning and organization of co-curricular activities is called management.
iii- Management of Human Resources:
The human resources of the school include students and teaching and non-teaching staff. No school can be a better school only because of its teachers but appropriate planning and organization of teaching and educational activities, good management, teacher training, students, libraries, cooperating staff, peons play the key role for a school high reputation. With their cooperation, interest in work, full involvement, friendly and well wishing are essential for a high standard school.
Human resources endowed with these qualities play an important role in achieving educational goals. The main purpose of human resource management is to promote mutual relationship between human resources. And this goal is achieved by staying within the limits and restrictions of the school.
iv- Management of Financial Resources:
Another important area of school management and organization is related to the allocation of financial resources and its use. Social and governmental cooperation is indispensable in this regard. However, an effective system of budget, account and audit has to be created for optimal utilization of funds. Moreover, the use of financial resources can be optimized through transparent policies, planning, rules and regulations under government guidance and consultation processes.
